My good friend Oliver Sykes is good enough to give me some freelance work here and there. I really appreciate his support. We worked together on promoting the VCU Massey Cancer Center's fund raising event, the Ukrop's Monument Avenue 5k last year. They wanted to use reuse our work from last year into this years event. This time around I took tried to take the visual standards, and push them as far as I could within the set perimeters. The options I proposed are above.

This is in tribute to one of my art hero's, Jim Flora. His "Mambo for Cats" illustration was my inspiration... obviously, his is much better but I thought I'd give it a try. Anyway, a special thanks to Adrian Walsh and Brian Memmott for their help with the concept and brainstorming and Claire Dyer for designing the rest of the brochure.

This is a "logo" for a scrapbooking event. I think they chose the top one. Scrapbooking can be pretty frivolous, in my opinion. However, I was grateful for the work and I must say I really enjoyed myself. I was able to throw caution to the wind and have fun making something that is so ugly that it's kinda cool.

I did this for someones power point presentation. I can't really remember much about it except it needed to show how much easier it is to lift something heavy using an inclined plane. ;) Needless to say, I liked how it turned out.

These guys described their music as "a mix of hip-hop and country" so I made hip-hop letterforms look like they were made of leather. Then, I added a rubberband texture behind it, just to be funny.

The copy reads, "The Artery presents a demonstration on photography by Daniel George." So as I was sketching out ideas I remembered how I once heard a photographer referred to as a cyclops. So I illustrated Polyphemus from Homer's Odyssey, with a camera as his one eye. ???? Well, it was fun to make anyway.
